A wedding is one of the few occasions where the tie goes from accessory to star. Expectations are high, and mistakes are very visible.
The Groom
- Day Wedding: Light-colored tie, in champagne, warm tones, or pale blue. With a matching pocket square.
- Evening Wedding: Dark tones, burgundy, or black. Sober and timeless class.
- Destination or Garden Wedding: A paisley print in earthy tones. Elegant without being rigid.
The Best Man and Groomsmen
The usual rule is to coordinate with the groom, not to overshadow him. If the groom wears a blue tie, the best men can wear a darker or lighter shade of the same color.
The Guest
Basic rule: no white and nothing that draws more attention than the main characters. Blues, grays, and discreet greens are always a safe bet.
The Father of the Groom or Bride
Classic and distinguished. A plain tie in burgundy or navy blue with a coordinated pocket square is the infallible formula.
